2026 marks the 130th anniversary of the dramatic event when a young Roald Amundsen lost his way on Hardangervidda and was rescued by a local farmer after several harrowing days on the mountain plateau. This experience became a defining turning point for the man who would later become one of the world’s greatest polar explorers.
Join us at Mogen Mountain Lodge for a truly special weekend as we follow in Amundsen’s footsteps through magnificent mountain scenery, fascinating stories, and unique culinary experiences.
This trip is perfect for anyone interested in polar history, authentic nature experiences, and exceptional locally sourced food.
We will hike through the area where Amundsen travelled as a young man and visit the simple stone cabin where he spent a night during his dramatic crossing of Hardangervidda. Along the way, you will hear the remarkable story of how the future polar explorer was rescued from the mountains by a local farmer—an experience that left a lasting impression on Amundsen throughout his life.
On Saturday evening, guests are invited to a very special gala dinner at Mogen Mountain Lodge. The menu is inspired by the food and ingredients from one of Roald Amundsen’s expeditions, reinterpreted through local traditions and the flavours of the mountain region.
